A family car policy is written for a car. A motorcycle, a boat, an RV, and an off-road vehicle each need their own conversation. Florida's no-fault law is aimed at four-wheel motor vehicles. Everything else is a different form, a different deductible, and often a different company.
What it covers
Liability for injury and property damage the form agrees to cover. Physical damage to the cycle, the boat, or the RV, if you buy it, subject to the deductible. Some boat policies include wreck removal and uninsured boaters. An RV policy can include the vehicle and a share of the contents while you are using it as a camper. Trailers need to be listed. A personal umbrella may be able to sit on top if the underlying limits qualify and the vehicle is disclosed.
What it doesn't cover
Personal injury protection on a motorcycle, because section 627.732 does not treat a motorcycle as a motor vehicle for that law. A car policy's liability, once you are operating a boat or an off-road vehicle the form excludes. Wear, mechanical breakdown, and a storm that the form calls flood rather than wind. A boat used as a residence, or chartered to others, unless the policy is written for that.
Florida specifics
The beaches and the St. Johns River mean boats are ordinary here, and so are afternoon storms. Where the boat is moored matters for wind and for theft. A motorcycle in Florida is used year-round, which is pleasant and which also means the bike is on the road when other drivers are not expecting it. An RV parked at a house for months can look to a company like a residence. Tell us if anyone lives in it.
How we help
Start a quote and check Motorcycle, Boat, or RV. If you have more than one, check each. We need the year, the length or the engine size, where it is kept, and whether a lender is involved. Call either office if the vehicle is unusual. We would rather hear about it before a claim than discover an exclusion after one.
